Electrogalvanizing is obtained by means of external power supply and electrodeposition, and the obtained coating is composed of fine pure zinc grains. Cold galvanizing (or electro-galvanizing) is zinc plated at room temperature by electroplating or other methods. Theoretically, electrogalvanizing can obtain a zinc layer of any thickness. At present, the amount of zinc on the practical galvanizing can reach 1200g/m2. Generally, the amount of zinc on the galvanized layer can reach 750g/m2.

Hot galvanizing is formed by physical thermal diffusion coating, the first formation of iron-zinc compound, successively in the iron-zinc compound surface generation of pure zinc layer. However, the high amount of zinc on hot dip galvanizing is only 593g/m2. Hot galvanizing will reduce the mechanical properties of steel wire, requiring high strength and high corrosion resistance of galvanized steel wire rope, more use of galvanized steel wire twist. Hot dip galvanizing is zinc plated in molten zinc at 450-480 degrees.

The essential difference between hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope and cold-galvanized steel wire rope is that the zinc layer of hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope is better than that of cold-dip galvanized steel wire rope because of the zinc-iron alloy layer. The surface state of hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope is because it is hot-dip galvanized with zinc-iron alloy, so its color should be a little black. However, there is no chemical reaction on the plating surface, so it is still the natural color of zinc and looks brighter. Under normal circumstances, the zinc layer of hot dip galvanizing should be thicker and the corrosion resistance is better. Electrogalvanized zinc layer is thinner, corrosion resistance is poor.
