Overall, yes.Non-destructive testing of steel wire ropeThe countries with earlier technology research include the United States, Britain, West Germany, Japan, Canada, Poland and other countries, and have achieved satisfactory results in practical use. China began to research in this area late, but after more than ten years of unremitting efforts, in this area has made a number of scientific research results and in some areas reached the international advanced level.
The earlier nondestructive testing of wire ropes dates back to the early 20th century. South African C.E.M. C.C.C. Shan and R.Colson jointly developed the first wire rope electromagnetic nondestructive detector to measure the cross-sectional loss of wire rope. The device uses an AC solenoid to magnetize the steel wire rope. When the cross-section of the steel wire rope as the inductor iron core changes, the impedance between the excitation coil and the detection coil will change accordingly, and the change of the induced electromotive force in the detection coil can be recorded. The defects that cause the change of the wire rope section can be measured in sequence. This method uses alternating current (AC) excitation, so called AC method. Due to the skin effect, the measurement accuracy of this method is very poor, the wire rope instrument is easy to heat up, and the coil must be wound on the wire rope for each measurement, so it is difficult to put into practical application. The leakage flux method developed in the 1920 s is used to detect local damage. Because direct current (DC) is used to excite the wire rope axially to saturation and measure the leakage flux at the damage to judge the damage, it is called DC method.
