Wire rope nondestructive testing is currently widely used, very popular methods are divided into visual detection and electromagnetic two categories, visual detection is very simple, very reliable, very traditional detection method, but this method has great limitations. Electromagnetic detection was applied in the early twentieth century, and the early instruments were relatively simple, bulky and inconvenient to carry. In the 1980 s, with the continuous development of new materials, microelectronic technology and computer technology. Wire rope detection equipment is also from the early volume and weight, difficult to operate, record data is not easy to save and process analysis, is gradually to the small size, light weight, easy to operate, simple, intelligent direction has a great development. And the formation of the relevant method standards, instruments open gradually to the standard and mature.
At present, the application of wire rope nondestructive testing can quantitatively detect the loss of metal cross-sectional area of wire rope, and can detect the damage of internal broken wire and wear, corrosion degree and wire rope deformation, which affect the service life of wire rope.
Wire rope electromagnetic detection is currently very mature, the application is very much, the wider detection method is LF (local damage) detection method and LMA (metal cross-sectional area loss) detection method. These two detection methods use the principle of magnetic flux leakage detection and main flux detection in electromagnetism. Both of these principles are to add a strong constant magnetic field to the wire rope to saturate the wire rope. The local damage (LF) of the wire rope is detected by the magnetic field leaking at the damage of the wire rope. The change of the metal cross-sectional area of the wire rope is detected by measuring the magnetic flux passing through the inside of the wire rope. The two methods of wire rope nondestructive testing are different kinds of wire rope damage. Local damage is mainly to detect broken wires, deformation, corrosion pits, etc., and the loss of metal cross-sectional area (LMA) is mainly to detect wear and corrosion and wide fracture broken wires.
The wire rope nondestructive flaw detector has the advantages of fast detection speed, accuracy, and can rely on no human influence. However, this method is less accurate and reliable than visual detection of external local damage (broken wire detection).
