The working principle of the wire rope non-destructive tester, let's learn about it with Baxter!
1. AC electromagnetic principle: The working principle is similar to that of a transformer. The primary and secondary coils are surrounded by a steel wire rope, which is like the iron core of a transformer. The primary (excitation) coil is powered by a low frequency alternating current of 10Hz to 30Hz. The secondary (probe) coil measures the magnetic properties of the wire rope. Any change in the magnetic properties of the wire rope is reflected by the voltage change (amplitude and phase) of the secondary coil. This kind of wire rope nondestructive tester is mainly used to detect the change of metal cross-sectional area.
2. Principle of DC and permanent magnet: DC and permanent magnet instruments provide constant magnetic flux and magnetize the wire rope through the sensor head. The total axial magnetic flux in the wire rope can be measured by a Hall effect sensor, an inductive coil, or other suitable device that is effective to measure changes in the magnetic or static magnetic field. The output of the sensor is an electrical signal, and its output voltage is proportional to the change of the metal cross-sectional area within the inductive range of the magnetic circuit. This kind of wire rope non-destructive tester is used to determine the change of metal cross-sectional area.
3. Principle of magnetic flux leakage: DC or permanent magnet instruments provide constant magnetic flux and magnetize the wire rope through the sensor head (magnetic circuit). Magnetic flux leakage caused by discontinuities (e. g., broken wires) in the wire rope can be detected by different sensors (e. g., Hall effect sensors, induction coils, or other suitable devices). The output of the sensor is an electrical signal.
4. Remanence principle: After the wire rope is magnetized by the DC or permanent magnet magnetization device, under the condition that the external magnetic field has been removed or there is no influence of the external magnetic field, the remanence characteristics of the ferromagnetic wire rope are used to determine the changes of the residual magnetic field in the wire rope by using the appropriate wire rope nondestructive detector that can effectively measure the changes of the residual magnetic field.
