Since the first wire rope electromagnetic nondestructive testing device was developed in South Africa in 1906, it has now developed more than ten methods of optical, ultrasonic, eddy current, mechanical, electromagnetic, ray, penetration, etc. for nondestructive testing of wire ropes. Among them, manual visual inspection is a very original method, but because of its simplicity, it is still used, but its reliability is poor; electromagnetic nondestructive testing method is recognized as a very reliable and very easy to achieve detection method in the world, the current use of wire rope nondestructive testing technology and instruments almost all use electromagnetic testing method.

At present, the domestic wire rope non-destructive testing market, mainly to sell domestic and foreign non-destructive testing equipment, many users have purchased testing equipment, but can not really play its role. The reason is that it is not easy to achieve accurate detection of wire rope defects, especially quantitative detection. American wire rope testing expert Dr. H.R. Weischedel once said: "The quantitative detection of wire rope defects is very difficult, if not impossible."

This is mainly due to the complexity of the structure of the wire rope itself and the inferiority of the field conditions, the limitations of detection methods and equipment. Wire rope nondestructive testing is only an auxiliary detection means, it can help us quickly, accurately and comprehensively find defects. We also need to analyze the type and severity of defects, accurately judge the current situation of wire rope, and take corresponding measures to improve the operation of wire rope to prevent further deterioration of damage. This not only requires the equipment to have good resolution and accuracy, but also requires the inspection personnel to have a comprehensive understanding of the wire rope structure and its defects, and to evaluate the defect state on this basis. Obviously, relying solely on the purchase of non-destructive testing equipment, the user to detect their own, it is difficult to obtain accurate and scientific testing data, but not possible to clearly judge the use of wire rope and deterioration trend prediction.

For a long time, we have three abbreviations for non-destructive testing, namely NDI(Non-destructive Inspection),NDT (Non-destructive Testing) and NDE (Non-destructive Evaluation). In fact, the non-destructive testing technology of foreign industrialized countries has gradually transitioned from NDI and NDT to NDE, that is, non-destructive evaluation is used to replace non-destructive testing and non-destructive testing.

The development trend of wire rope nondestructive testing will gradually transition from NDI and NDT to NDE, and will develop from NDE to ANDE (Auto Non-destructive Evaluation) and QNDE (Quality Non-destructive Evaluation), that is, from general nondestructive evaluation to automatic nondestructive evaluation and quantitative nondestructive evaluation. This development is easy to understand, because non-destructive evaluation already includes the content of non-destructive testing and non-destructive testing, and its meaning is more than that, it is more comprehensive than non-destructive testing and non-destructive testing. It not only requires higher accuracy and reliability of NDT equipment, but also requires NDT workers to have more extensive knowledge, deeper foundation and higher comprehensive analysis ability.

Obviously, wire rope nondestructive testing requires more reliable instruments and more professional testing experts, which is far from being achieved by purchasing equipment. In non-destructive testing, the need is to be able to provide professional wire rope non-destructive testing services, that is, to rely on intelligent testing equipment, comprehensive wire rope testing status and theoretical knowledge, comprehensive assessment, to determine the deterioration trend, this is the future of testing.
